The entire Minstrel’s Song Series is now available in audio!

This is an absolute dream come true, my friends! I am so very excited to be able to present this series to you in a whole new way!

When I posted King’s Warrior on ACX to accept auditions in January 2020, I was a little bit worried that nobody would be interested. In an attempt to be completely forthcoming about the size and difficulty of this project, I posted this disclaimer along with it:

This is the first book in a complete 4-book series. I hope to eventually release all four books in audio format. The story is in 3rd person omniscient and the cast is fairly large. There are some more difficult names and words to pronounce in the book, but I have a full pronunciation guide available.

It wasn’t until later that I would discover that “the cast is fairly large” was a bit of an understatement. There are 67 separate speaking characters in this book!

But thankfully, Benjamin Fife took one look at this book and decided he was up for a challenge! And after listening to three different voice actors and their auditions, I knew that Benjamin brought that “old world” feel I was looking for.

I would later find out that he brings a whole lot more than that! Benjamin does such a fantastic job with all the voices—especially the dragons!—that his performance is more than worth the price of admission. I have always preferred radio dramas to basic audio books (probably a by-product of growing up listening to Adventures in Odyssey and the Chronicles of Narnia radio dramas) and Benjamin manages to hit somewhere in between the two all by himself. He even sings when he happens across a song (and sometimes he gets his whole family to join in, too!) I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Benjamin’s wife, who plays the mandolin and wrote the music for the opening and closing credits, plays music in a few places throughout the audio books, and also sings Dylanna’s song in the first book!

I have been so blessed to get to work with someone who is as excited about this project as I am and who loves the story every bit as much as I do. And I love that this story, which began as an adventure tale for my family to read together, has now become a family-project for Benjamin as well. (His kids helped out with a song in King’s Warrior as well!)

This series was always meant to be listened to. I wrote them for my dad to read out loud to my siblings... and now everyone can hear them the way they were meant to be enjoyed.

What Readers Are Saying

King’s Warrior

In the vein of Terry Brooks, King’s Warrior is an excellent epic fantasy! I look forward to reading more from this author.

This is a Well written, wholesome Medieval adventure story with Great Characters and Wonderful Storyline. Narrator did a wonderful job of making the story and characters come to life, love the Scottish style brogue used for several characters.

The narrator was excellent, all the characters had distinct voices, and he really made it an enjoyable listen, There were a few songs maybe 1/3 of the way through the book, where a woman was singing and I was surprised when they actually had a woman sing the part. The book was clean - there was no innuendo, no language, no "adult" scenes, which I really appreciate. With the battles I would expect it to be rated PG or PG13 if it were a movie.

Second Son

This has a great world and wonderful characters.

As soon as I started listening to this second book I immediately felt like an old friend was reading to me. Mr Fife has such an expressive voice for the different characters, but reads through the descriptions so smoothly that one can just slip into the scene and be immersed in the story. He is one of my favorite narrators!

This book was amazing! I couldn't stop listening!! I loved it and recommend it! I found that I would try to guess what would happen next, but the story rarely went as I was anticipating.

Yorien’s Hand

This third installment in the Minstrel's Song series was just as lovely a read as the first two. Filled with excitement, drama, and fantastical creatures, it's a story you don't really want to end. And the narrator is still great!

It has been so much fun these past couple of months, as each book came out, to see new life and new enthusiasm poured out on this series that has been out for several years. King’s Warrior just celebrated its NINTH birthday, and Minstrel’s Call has been out for THREE years already (they grow up so fast!). I was a bit worried that these audio books would be… well… too late, if that makes sense. But my fears were unfounded. And for that, I am extremely grateful.

So THANK YOU, dear Reader and dear Listener! Thank you for welcoming these stories into your hearts and homes. Thank you for being excited about this new format. Thank you for waiting (some of you have been asking me for nine years if I’d ever get around to making these into audio books, and so I especially thank you for your patience!) Thank you for being excited with me!
